Flint Plantation is a small, privately held, timber plantation located on the banks of the Flint River in Western Central Georgia. We operate a sustainable silvopasture operation, raising a breed of heritage cattle known as Pineywood, in conjunction with timber. Our diversified timber holdings, consist of a near equal mix of pine and hardwood. We have a considerable amount of older loblolly pine (pinus taeda) but are replanting with longleaf pine (pinus palustris). Our cattle roam freely and graze year around in our timber stands, foraging on native grasses, forbs, and legumes.
The Livestock Conservancy
The Livestock Conservancy's mission is genetic conservation and the promotion of heritage breeds. Since its inception in 1977, The Livestock Conservancy has been a “central hub” for anything having to do with rare breed conservation in the United States. The Livestock Conservancy does research, education, outreach, marketing and promotion, and genetic rescues to help ensure the future of rare breed agriculture.
Pineywoods Cattle Registry & Breeders Association
Pineywoods cattle are an endangered breed of “heritage” livestock that are descended from the original Spanish stock left along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama by the Spanish explorers in the early 1500’s. The purpose of the PCRBA is to promote the study, conservation, and propagation of Pineywoods cattle, educate about Pineywoods cattle, identify and develop markets for Pineywoods cattle, and to foster cooperation and fellowship among members, breeders, and the general public
The Spanish Goat Association
The Spanish Goat Association is trying to preserve the true Spanish goat gene pool that has made Spanish goats so great. Our goal of conserving this heritage breed can only be achieved with the participation of dedicated breeders, and we're fortunate that our breeders are kind, supportive, and easy-going.
